Fabulous Royal Navy HMS Valiant Teak Book Marker or Page Turner (c.1948)
HMS Valiant was one of five Queen Elizabeth-class battleships built for the RN, commissioned in 1916. She was heavily involved in both World Wars including the Battle of Jutland (WW1) and Operations Catapult, Husky, Avalanche, Touchstone & Battles at Crete, Cape Matapan, Norwegian Campaign and fired on Japanese bases in Indonesia.
After an extremely intensive war campaign, she was decommissioned in 1945 and finally scrapped in 1948. This is where items and souvenirs like this were manufactured so the general public could own a fabulous piece of history.
This 25cm book marker, page turner or letter opener is made from teak removed from the ship in 1948 and has a brass provenance cartouche to the handle.
